First, you need to open the bonnet of your auto and search for the wiper fluid reservoir. You will notice a fill line on the reservoir, and if your fluid is below that, get ready to fill up that thirsty tank.

The cap of the reservoir should not be hot, but if you have just run your car, you will want to check to make sure by using the back of your hand to test the heat of the cap. Most caps are plastic and will not become hot, but it is a simple and easy precaution to take. Remove the cap, take a funnel and pour your new windshield wiper fluid into the reservoir, taking care to not go over the fill line. Once the fluid level has reached the fill line, replace the cap, close the bonnet, start your auto, and run your wiper fluid for a few seconds to get the remnants of the old fluid out and to be sure that your washer fluid dispensers are working properly.

There is the chance that you are out of fluid because it leaked out, so if anything seems out of place or the fluid level seems to drop after you have put the fluid in, you should consider taking your auto to a garage to have them check out your lines. You could try to check the lines yourself, but you may not have the necessary tools to fix the lines, or the proper knowledge of how to go into the car to fix the problem, so leave it to the professionals.
